Gemstones form inside of the crust of the earth, around 3 to 25 miles underneath the earth’s surface. When molten magma that is running through the cuts and creases reaches the surface and cools off, it forms crystals and granny minerals. The slower the cooling, the larger is the gemstone. There are three types of rocks, igneous and sedimentary rocks and each type form the different kinds of gemstones we see and wear today.
